Early on in her career, Dr. Regina Benjamin realized being a doctor involved much more than simply practicing medicine.
“The patients had problems my prescription pad, by itself, wasn’t enough for,” she said.
As a doctor in the small, rural Alabama town of Bayou La Batre, Benjamin encountered patients dealing with extreme poverty, lack of insurance and a lack of education. Addressing that lack of education, Benjamin said, should be a top priority for medical professionals. Read more.
